It is revealed that Begleiter had been informing Terry about Ruby's reports to him. Begleiter has grown suspicious after a call from the bank saying the guardianship is under investigation. Suddenly, the loan sharks appear at the house, stab Begleiter when Terry claims that he's responsible for Terry's debt, repossess Terry's Jaguar and Ferrari, and tie up Terry, insisting he take a ride with them. Overhearing Terry begging them to take the Volvo instead of the Jaguar, Ruby stabs the Volvo's tires, forcing them to drive away in the Jaguar with Terry in it. As a result of Terry's tampering, the loan shark loses control of the Jaguar, accidentally ramming the Ferrari into oncoming traffic, then goes over a ledge and crashes, seemingly killing the loan shark and Terry.

"He just lets this television show create this persona for the Los Angeles Police Department," Schave said. He'd become the department's public face for forensic evidence and help bring a greater legitimacy to the practice. Originally called the Police Administration Building, the building was renamed for Parker after his death in 1966. A fair share of America's most notorious criminals passed through its doors, including Charles Manson, Sirhan Sirhan and the Hillside Strangler, who were all booked at the facility. When the Los Angeles Police Departent's new headquarters opened in 1955, the West Coast Modernist structure was the physical embodiment of Chief William H. Parker's dream of a nationally recognized monument to modern policing.

Ray Pinker would be portrayed by Jack Webb in the 1947 film He Walked By Night. His character would later inspire Webb when he created the 1950s TV series Dragnet. Parker Center appears in the 1983 movie Blue Thunder, the 1992 movie One False Move, and the 1970-set 2014 film Inherent Vice. The building was one of the sites of unrest during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that followed a not guilty verdict for the four police officers involved in the Rodney King incident. For the client's entertaining needs, the outdoor area includes a kitchen, two patios complete with fire pits, and an LED-lit pool1. The main garage also serves as an event space and can be completely opened on two sides for through views.

Through the use of massive structural steel beams, the home is able to appear weightless as it hovers above an expansive lawn. No expense has been spared during the six years that it took to complete this groundbreaking structure. All of the large glass panels are Star Fire glass, an incredibly clear glass usually reserved for jewelry displays. It s kitchen and baths are by such famous names as Varena, Poliform and Antonio Lupi.

The ground floor provides the entry and communal spaces for gathering, while the top floor is dedicated to the home’s private spaces. Given its prominent positioning above a relatively developed neighborhood, the motivation behind the design of the home was to create a residence that could meld into its surroundings while maximizing views. The three-story structure, which takes on the shape of a three-winged propeller, is wrapped in glass that mirrors its sweeping views of the Los Angeles Basin, unobstructed from the Getty Center to Long Beach, Century City, and Downtown. With time, the Parker Center became outdated and was in need of expensive seismic retrofits.

Parker Center appears in the police procedural media franchise Dragnet, beginning with the fifth season of the 1955 television series. It was most prominent in the 1966 television series, where it appeared in a majority of episodes as the headquarters of most divisions except the Juvenile Division. If you want to see a great movie about a couple of kids endangered by a sinister guardian, rent "The Night of the Hunter." Watching "The Glass House" has all the elements for a better film, but doesn't trust the audience to keep up with them.
Having criticized the Strick screenplay, I should in fairness observe that the way it usually works is, the writer puts in the smart stuff and then it comes out in the story conferences with executives who figure if they don't understand it, nobody will. He's one of those actors, like Christopher Walken, who you assume on first glance has a secret evil agenda. The film opens with one of those irrelevant shock buttons that have become annoying in recent years--five or 10 minutes that have nothing to do with the rest of the story, but fool us with misleading footage. In this case, there's a horror scene, and then we see it's a film, and then we see the heroine and her friends watching it--and, yes, they're cute as they giggle at their own reactions, but openings like this are empty stylistic exercises. Once was a time when the well-made film used its opening scenes to dig in, not just spin its wheels.

Moments later, the children leave the house on foot and are picked up by a friendly police officer. Coming across the accident scene where the Jaguar went off the road, the cop gets out of the car to investigate, discovering the loan shark's body. Severely injured, Terry climbs to the road and staggers towards Ruby and Rhett, hiding a gun. Ruby gets into the driver's seat and, telling Rhett to put on his seatbelt, speeds into Terry, killing him. That night, Terry angrily berates Ruby for her behavior and states that he plans to send her to a strict and far away boarding school. Once Terry and Erin are asleep, Ruby steals Terry's car keys and attempts to escape with Rhett in Terry's Jaguar.
Sobieski is fine, too--as good an upscale Los Angeles high school student as Kirsten Dunst in the recent "Crazy/Beautiful," but in a genre exercise that strands her instead of going someplace interesting and taking her along. Because of the film's critical and financial failure, the studio had little interest in keeping unused footage and the missing 74 minutes of footage have since been considered lost. The kids are last seen placing flowers at their parents' grave with their Uncle Jack, who hugs them and says that things will get easier. Ruby says that they already have and the three leave together to go to Chicago.
Part of that vision, Schave said, was a headquarters wired from "head-to-toe." And it was. "(Parker) wanted to make the Los Angeles Police Department the most modern and efficient municipal law enforcement department in the country," Schave told KPCC's Take Two. "His vision for reform and innovation is intrinsically tied up the style and function of his new police headquarters." Despite that, city officials told LAist that "pre-demolition" began Monday. The walls will start coming down "a little bit later," according to Anna Bahr of Mayor Eric Garcetti's office. Fewer than four decades later, the Parker Center would become the focal point for the unbridled rage of a community after four LAPD officers were acquitted of assault charges in the beating of Rodney King.
